Manchester United were reportedly willing to pay around £45m to sign Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen during the summer.

The Red Devils were on the hunt for a wide attacker with experience and Bild claims that Diaby was considered as a target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United were prepared to pay up to £45m for the Frenchman, who contributed eight goals and eight assists for Leverkusen last term.

However, the Bundesliga outfit declined the approach, considering his importance to the side after the departure of Kai Havertz.

Ultimately, the Red Devils went onto sign two inexperienced wingers in Facundo Pellestri and Amad Traore before the deadline.

Traore has yet to join the club from Atalanta due to work permit and passport issues. A transfer is, however, expected to go through in January.

United have made an impressive start to the season and they have picked up only seven points from the opening six Premier League games.
