Manchester United are willing to part ways with Sergio Romero for a cut-price fee during the January transfer window.

The Argentine was placed in the transfer market last summer, but no sides were willing to meet the £5m price tag.

United have since excluded him from their Premier League and Champions League squads and it appears that there is no way back for him.

According to The Mirror, the Red Devils are prepared to sanction his sale in January and could be willing to accept around £2.5m.

Romero's current deal expires at the end of the campaign, but United have the option of extending his stay for another 12 months.

Still, that may not be of much use, given he is deemed surplus to requirements and the club are looking to sell him as soon as possible.

Romero was linked with a move to Major League Soccer last month and it remains to be seen whether there is any fresh interest.

David de Gea remains United's first-choice goalkeeper with Dean Henderson and Lee Grant being the second and third-choice options.
