Manchester United have received a potential blow in signing Villarreal defender Pau Torres this summer.

The Spaniard has been heavily linked with the club in recent weeks with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanting to sign a left-footed centre-back.

Villarreal boss Unai Emery recently hinted that Torres could be on the move, but he is most likely to end up at Barcelona or Real Madrid.

It is now claimed that the 24-year-old has the same stance as the manager, and would welcome the prospect of staying in La Liga.

Torres has been on the radar of Real Madrid for a number of months, but they are yet to open negotiations with Villarreal.

The club are unlikely to trigger the £56m release clause in the defender's contract, and may instead propose a player-plus-cash deal.

Torres is focused on making the Spain squad for the European Championships this summer, and will only decide on his future after the tournament.
