Manchester United make £50m bid for Real Madrid star
Manchester United have reportedly made an opening bid for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.
The Frenchman has been fancied to leave Los Blancos after a decade due to his contract standoff with the club.
He has 12 months left on his contract, and he has snubbed negotiations after being asked to take a pay-cut.
According to Manchester Evening News, United made a £50m bid for the centre-back, but it was swiftly rejected by Los Blancos.
The Madrid giants want around £80m for their defender, but United are optimistic that the price could be negotiated.
A fee of around £60m could seal the deal. United will face plenty of competition from Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.
Varane reportedly prefers a move to Ligue 1 with Les Parisiens, but the Premier League duo remain hopeful of landing him.
Varane is expected to make a decision regarding his future shortly after the conclusion of France's campaign at Euro 2020.
