Manchester United have opened negotiations with Bruno Fernandes over a new long-term contract, reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano claims.

The 26-year-old has been a crucial player for United over the past 16 months, registering 40 goals and registering 25 assists from 80 appearances.

He still has four years remaining on his contract, but the United hierarchy are prepared to hand him a new bumper deal for his efforts.

Fernandes is currently on £180,000-a-week wages, and the new deal could see him become one of the top three earners at the club.

United are willing to reward him with a salary of around £300,000-a-week that would put him behind only David de Gea in the earner's list.

Elsewhere, it has been reported that United are close to negotiating a new contract for Pogba. He could sign a new five-year deal.

He is currently on £290,000-a-week wages. The board are prepared to give him a raise of around £70,000 weekly to extend his stay.
