Newcastle to sign Kieran Trippier?

Newcastle United are reportedly close to sealing a deal for Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier.

The England international was keen on a Premier League return last summer, but Atletico Madrid did not receive any suitable bids.

The Spanish outfit wanted the £34m release clause to be paid in full. Manchester United refused to come close to the valuation.

The Red Devils made an opening bid of around £10m. They came up with an improved offer of £16m that was also turned down.

Ahead of the New Year, it is reported that the Magpies have entered the pursuit, and they are reportedly close to finalising a deal.

Trippier will enter the final 18 months of his contract in January, and TalkSPORT claims that he is set to join the Tyneside outfit.

The Magpies are prepared to pay around £25m, and they are confident that Atletico will sanction the defender's sale for that figure.

Newcastle are currently languishing in the 19th spot with just 10 points. They are expected to spend big after their Saudi-led takeover.
