Chelsea suffer setback ahead of Club World Cup

Tuchel unavailable for Club World Cup

Chelsea have suffered a setback ahead of their upcoming Club World Cup campaign in Abu Dhabi.

The Blues progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup today with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Plymouth Argyle.

Before the game, they suffered a big setback with the news that Thomas Tuchel had tested positive for coronavirus.

The German is now isolating himself, and he won't be travelling with the team for the Club World Cup campaign.

Chelsea have received a bye for the first and second rounds of the competition and will play in the semi-final.

They could face either Al Jazira or Al Hilal. If they end up winning, a final awaits against either Palmeiras or Al Ahly.

The Blues should be overwhelming favourites for the competition, but they were beaten in their last involvement a decade ago.

They previously took part in 2012 where they lost to Corinthians in the final. Paolo Guerrero scored the only goal of the contest.
