Jurrien Timber set for United move?

Manchester United have emerged as front-runners to sign Ajax defender Jurrien Timber this summer, Florian Plettenberg claims.

The Red Devils are looking for a new central defender, and they have been linked with several names including Pau Torres.

However, it now appears they are leading the race to sign Timber, who was handed his first-team debut at Ajax by Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag is now United's permanent manager, and the hierarchy look set to back him by luring Timber from his former employers.

Timber has made a huge impression at Ajax. He has averaged more than two tackles and two interceptions per league game.

The 20-year-old is also on the radar of Bayern Munich, but United seem to hold the edge, having spoken with his representatives.

Ten Hag could be a key factor in the pursuit, given he has been instrumental towards the Dutchman's progress over the past two years.

Timber is generally a central defender, but he is also comfortable playing at right-back. He already has six caps with Netherlands.
