Manchester United have been fancied to make the strongest bid to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong this summer.

The Red Devils want to sign a holding midfielder for next season, and De Jong has recently emerged as the prime transfer target.

According to Sport, Barcelona want €90m for De Jong, but they would be willing to come down to €80m for his services.

A number of high-profile clubs have been linked, but United are said to be in the strongest position to sign the Dutchman.

De Jong previously worked under manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax, and they could be reunited at Old Trafford this summer.

Ten Hag will be United's permanent manager from Monday. The 52-year-old has already started planning for new arrivals.

De Jong is obviously at the top of his wishlist, but the midfielder could snub United due to their lack of Champions League football.

Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are among clubs that could enter the race if Barcelona start listening to offers for De Jong.
