Man Utd on the verge of signing 25-year-old midfielder

Manchester United are reportedly on the verge of landing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong this summer.

The Dutchman has been linked with the Red Devils for the past month or so, and the club are now on the cusp of reaching an agreement.

Barcelona are said to demand around €80 million for the Netherlands international, but United are optimistic of paying a lesser fee up front.

According to Sky Sports' Dharmesh Sheth, a broad agreement is set to be finalised with United planning to pay €65m as a fixed fee.

It is added that personal terms are no longer a problem. De Jong is now convinced about making the switch to Old Trafford.

He was initially hesitant due to the lack of Champions League football, but has come to terms amid Barcelona's financial problems.

The 25-year-old would prefer to continue at Camp Nou, but does not want to stay if the Blaugrana are pushing him through the exit door.
