Man Utd's offer for De Jong expires

Manchester United will need to make a fresh offer for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, according to De Telegraaf.

The Red Devils agreed a package of £72m for the Netherlands star last month, but they were not able to finalise personal terms.

As a result, the agreement has reached an expiry date, and the club need to hold a fresh round of negotiations with Barcelona.

United are still optimistic of signing the 25-year-old, considering the Catalan giants need to offload him to balance their books.

De Jong is aware of the same, and he could yet move on from the club if they are prepared to settle his deferred wages of £17m.

Chelsea have also been regularly linked with the former Ajax graduate, but the London giants are said to have ended their transfer pursuit.

A new midfielder is not a priority for the west London giants and they prefer to sign a new right-back and central defender instead.
