Ten Hag stalls Man Utd contract extensions

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has reportedly stalled contract negotiations on players until the World Cup.

The Dutch tactician took charge of the Red Devils over the summer, and has since made several changes around the club.

According to The Telegraph, Ten Hag has now instructed the hierarchy to pause any renewals until the World Cup break.

The 52-year-old wants to assess his current group of players to determine whether they warrant new contract extensions.

United currently have eight players including Marcus Rashford and Diogo Dalot, who have entered the final year of their deals.

The club have 12-month options on the majority of those players, but Ten Hag wants the clause triggered only on merit.

In the past, Ed Woodward automatically activated those clauses, but Ten Hag wants a change in that culture going forward.

The Dutchman wants his players to earn their contracts such that they don't fall into a comfort zone which has happened previously.
