Chelsea planning to sign Rafael Leao in January

Chelsea are reportedly planning to sign AC Milan forward Rafael Leao during the January transfer window.

The Blues attempted to land the Portuguese before the summer transfer deadline, but could not convince the Rossoneri.

Their offer of around £65m was snubbed by the Serie A champions, but they have not given up on landing the versatile star.

According to Calciomercato, the Blues will make a renewed approach in January and are optimistic of signing him this time.

Leao is about to enter the final 18 months of his Milan contract, and there has been no breakthrough in talks over an improved deal.

Chelsea are prepared to capitalise on the situation and believe they can prise Leao away from Milan midway through the campaign.

The Blues desperately need more creativity for the back end of the campaign following a dreadful start to their Premier League season.

They are currently lying eighth in the standings. The club are already eight points behind the final Champions League position.
