Chelsea ready to pay £112m for World Cup winner?
Chelsea are reportedly prepared to pay around £112 million to sign Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez this month.
The Blues have earmarked the World Cup winner as their main winter target and they are now in advanced talks to secure his services.
Fernandez currently has a release clause worth £106 million in his contract, but Chelsea are ready to pay more to negotiate a long-term payment.
The Blues are currently tight when it comes to the Financial Fair Play and want to spread Fernandez's fee over a period of seven seasons.
It will be interesting to see whether Benfica accept the proposal. The Portuguese side were planning to keep Fernandez until the summer.
The scenario has now changed with Chelsea's transfer interest in him, and it is likely that they will sanction his sale in the coming days.
Fernandez has already agreed personal terms with Chelsea and has no issues in joining them despite their poor league season thus far.
