Liverpool closing in on signing South American star

Liverpool are reportedly close to reaching an agreement to sign Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.

The Argentina international has had a superb season with the Seagulls, contributing 12 goals and two assists in all competitions.

He is expected to pursue a bigger challenge this summer and Football Insider claim that Liverpool are in advanced discussions with him.

Mac Allister has a release clause in his contract with the Seagulls and the Reds are aware regarding the same ahead of the summer.

It remains to be seen whether they can persuade him to join. It has been reported that he wants to play in the Champions League.

Liverpool are unlikely to feature in the elite club competition next season, barring a minor miracle before the end of the campaign.

The Reds need to win their final league game of the season and hope that either Newcastle or Man Utd lose their last two matches.

This is highly unlikely to happen with winnable fixtures for both.
