Man Utd set to confirm new captain this week

Manchester United are set to confirm their new captain this week with Harry Maguire set to be axed from the role.

Maguire had a frustrating 2022/23 season with the Red Devils. He was limited to only eight Premier League starts.

His situation is unlikely to improve, and The Sun report that manager Erik ten Hag will pick a new captain very soon.

Ten Hag did not relinquish Maguire from the role last term. He wore the armband whenever he was on the pitch.

However, this is expected to change in the coming days. Bruno Fernandes is the favourite to become the new leader.

Fernandes was almost ever-present for United in all competitions last season. He stayed injury-free throughout.

The Portuguese was in exceptional form in the second half of the season and finished with 14 goals and 15 assists.

The 28-year-old has the respect of everyone in the squad, and he is likely to be announced as the new captain of United.
