Manchester United are planning a move for Santos striker Marcos Leonardo, according to Calciomercato in Italy.

The Red Devils have recently signed Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta for £72m, and he is expected to lead the line next season.

However, the club are also exploring a back-up player behind the Dane, and it appears Leonardo is one of the options on their radar.

Roma were recently deemed to be close to signing him, but there has been a breakdown in talks due to a disagreement over payment terms.

As a result, United could have the upper hand in the race for the 20-year-old, who is ready to try a new challenge in European football.

Leonardo has had a promising season for Santos. He has scored 14 goals and provided four assists from 30 appearances for the Brazilian side.

The youngster was also brilliant for his country at the Under-20 World Cup. He bagged five goals and one assist from five outings for them.
