Manchester City win race to sign Jeremy Doku
Man City have beaten West Ham to the signing of £55 million winger Jeremy Doku from Rennes, as the Cityzens move swiftly to fill the gap exposed by the departed Riyad Mahrez. Pep Guardiola has personally monitored Jeremy Doku in recent months, and believes that the Belgium international will add useful flexibility in attack to his squad.
The 21-year-old right-winger has already said his goodbyes to teammates at Rennes, as a move to the Premier League this summer appeared increasingly likely. After Chelsea pulled out of a deal for the 5 foot 8 forward, that left just Man City and West Ham to battle for the player's signature. City will win the race though, as a promise of regular first-team football at the Premier League champions appears impossible to turn down.
Doku has appeared for Belgium's national team 14 times, scoring two goals, and during the three years he spent with Rennes returned an impressive nine goals in 74 games.
It is understood that Man City will also pay a £1 million signing on fee to the player, and a further £3.5 million will be included in the deal for performance related bonuses to Ligue 1 side Rennes.
