Sofyan Amrabat to join Man Utd on loan
Manchester United have won the race to sign Morocco international midfielder Sofyan Amrabat on loan from Fiorentina. Amrabat, 27, is one of the best defensive midfielders in Serie A and is a major coup for Man Utd on transfer deadline day. The club have also negotiated a clause that allows them to make the loan deal permanent at the end of the 2023/24 season.
Amrabat began his career in the Netherlands, where he was born, playing for Utrecht. A move to Feyenoord followed, before a transfer to Belgian side Club Brugge. After impressing on loan at Hellas Verona, Fiorentina were persuaded to sign Amrabat on a permanent basis in 2020. Since then, Amrabat has played over 100 games for the Viola.
The midfielder had been an important member of Morocco's World Cup squad for the tournament in Qatar, as his country were surprise contenders for the trophy, going all the way to the semi-final.
It is understood that Erik Ten Hag, the Man Utd manager, wants Amrabat on a permanent basis and is expected to push for a transfer at the end of this loan spell.
