Manchester United could make two signings during the January transfer window with the financial backing from Sir Jim Ratcliffe, according to The Sun.

Ratcliffe has agreed to purchase a 25 per cent stake at the club and he is expected to gain control of the sporting matters in the coming weeks.

This will allow him to focus on squad development and reports claim that he is prepared to back the manager with two January purchases.

A new forward could be a top priority for the Red Devils with the added burden on Rasmus Hojlund. He is currently nursing a muscle injury.

Elsewhere, another defensive midfielder could be signed with Casemiro no longer in his prime. He is presently out with a hamstring problem.

Sofyan Amrabat was fancied to succeed him in the role, but the Moroccan has struggled since his loan move from Fiorentina last summer.

United have had a below-par start to the campaign and they have already suffered nine defeats from their opening 18 games in all competitions.
