Sheff Utd have secured a major coup this afternoon, in bringing Croatian international goalkeeper Ivo Grbic to the club. The struggling Premier League outfit had been looking for additional goalkeeping options and agreed a 3 million euro fee with Atletico Madrid to sign the 28-year-old shotstopper.

Having spent almost 3 and a half years with Atletico, Grbic only appeared in 12 league games and ultimately played understudy to Jan Oblak. After informing his agent that he wanted to play regular first-team football, interest from Sheffield United was revealed and discussions between the two clubs took place almost immediately. The player, who has 2 caps for Croatia, will compete with Wes Foderingham for the number 1 jersey.

The Blades are expected to spend at least £20 million on new players in the January transfer window, bolstering their squad for the difficult second half of the league season.

Grbic had previously come through Hajduk Split's youth side, before a transfer to Croatian club Lokomotiva followed. It is at this club where Grbic shone, and a deal for Atletico was agreed just a couple of years later.
