Man Utd favourites to beat Arsenal to defender deal

Manchester United are deemed favourites to beat Arsenal to the signing of Bayer Munich star Matthijs de Ligt this summer.

De Ligt has grown a frustrated figure at Bayern Munich with the lack of regular game time. He was an unused substitute in the recent loss to Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.

The Dutchman is already contemplating his future at the club and reports claim that United have the upper hand over the Gunners in the race to land the former Juventus centre-back.

United have already made contact with the representatives of the former Ajax graduate. They also have another advantage with the presence of Erik ten Hag as their current manager.

Ten Hag played a big role in De Ligt's development at Ajax and a reunion with his former head coach could be enticing for the Dutchman during the summer transfer window.

Bayern are likely to demand at least €50 million to part ways with the 24-year-old. Chelsea are also admirers, but they are no longer a lucrative destination for top players.
