Man Utd eyeing surprise move for Spanish striker

Joselu to United?

Manchester United are lining up a surprise move for Espanyol striker Joselu, who is currently on loan at Real Madrid.

The Spaniard joined Los Blancos during last summer's transfer window and he has impressed with 13 goals and three assists.

The 34-year-old has expressed his desire to continue with Los Blancos next term, but United are planning a surprise approach.

According to Relevo, officials from the club recently met Espanyol to discuss a potential transfer for the former Stoke City man.

Joselu, who was previously in the Premier League with Stoke and Newcastle United, is seen as an ideal back-up for Rasmus Hojlund.

His good physique, hold-up play and goal scoring have impressed United, who are expected to release Anthony Martial in a few months' time.

Martial's current deal expires at the end of the season. The club have decided against triggering a one-year option available to them.

With the Frenchman's persistent injury concerns, the hierarchy have decided to save funds and sign a better deputy for Hojlund.
