Aguirre reiterates Atlético Desire

Atletico Madrid coach Javier Aguirre has reiterated his conviction that he shall remain at the helm at the Estadio Vicente Calderon next season and carry Atleti in the UEFA Champions League.

Atletico secured Champions League football for next season on the penultimate day of this season and shall feature in Europe's top-tier club competition after 11 heavily limping years under Mexican coach Javier Aguirre.

But there has been loads of speculation over Aguiree's future at the club. There have been reports of in-fighting between players in the squad and Aguirre has also been said to be in friction with the club president and the club majority shareholder.

But Aguirre has always maintained that his job at Atletico was always safe and secure and he reiterated:

"I am a man who believes in this project and have my convictions and therefore I want to stay and comply with my contract.

"In all honesty, I am very happy here and I have always said I want to stay. I am very enthusiastic about the club's plans and I was excited last summer after qualifying for the UEFA Cup and am even more now that we are in the Champions League.

"The fact that I am now able to relax a bit does not signify that I am do not have any desire.

"Everything that I have asked the club for they have done for me and I am free to do what I want.

"It is normal that there is speculation over my future following two defeats, but the truth is that nobody has ever talked to me about me staying or going."
