Manchester United won't be pursuing the signature of Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell before the transfer deadline, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The England international has been deemed surplus to requirements under manager Enzo Maresca and he is free to leave the club this month.

United were linked with him earlier in the summer, but the club are unlikely to make an approach for his services in the coming days, as per Romano.

The Red Devils are eyeing a loan deal for a new left-back, but Chelsea are adamant that Chilwell will only leave on a permanent transfer.

Hence, he is not an option for Erik ten Hag's side. United currently have Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia on the sidelines with injury concerns.

Diogo Dalot started at left-back on Friday. Noussair Mazraoui and Lisandro Martinez can also operate from the defensive position if required.

United don't face an urgent need at the moment. Shaw is anticipated to return from his calf injury after the next international break.
