Napoli chief on Garnacho

Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna has confirmed that the Serie A outfit really wanted to sign Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United this winter.

The Serie A giants were hot on the trail of the Argentina international, but a deal did not materialise before the transfer deadline on Monday night.

Manna has now revealed that Napoli made an important bid on the table for Garnacho and really wanted to secure his services from the Red Devils.

However, the club were not able to agree on personal terms with Garnacho, who asked for an important salary to leave United midway through the season.

He said: "We made an important bid to Manchester United for Garnacho. We really wanted him.

"We weren’t able to agree on personal terms with Alejandro, he requested an important salary to leave in January and we must respect our players."

Garnacho could still depart at the end of the campaign. United are open to selling him for the right price to secure pure profit for financial reasons.

Chelsea enquired over the 20-year-old in the final week, and the Blues could return with a formal approach when the transfer window reopens.
