Arsenal handed boost in Julian Alvarez pursuit

Arsenal have been handed a boost in signing Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez before the transfer window closes next month.

The Gunners are long-term admirers of the Argentina international, but they have yet to make a formal approach to land his services.

Mikel Arteta's side are aware of the player's desire to join Barcelona, but that move may not come to fruition in the near future, at least.

Atletico have no desire to do business with the Blaugrana and will insist on selling him abroad if he wants to leave the Madrid giants.

The news is a potential boost for the Gunners, given Arteta has been a firm admirer of the World Cup winner since his Manchester City days.

Man City had no intention to sell Alvarez to the Gunners two years ago, but Arsenal could get their hands on the player this time around.

It may take at least £130m to prise him away from Atletico.
