Maresca reacts to Jorgensen's error vs Aston Villa
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has backed goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen following his high-profile error against Aston Villa in the Premier League.
The Blues raced into a 1-0 lead in the opening half and looked good value for the lead. However, they could not hold onto the slender advantage.
Marcus Rashford provided an assist for Marco Asensio's equaliser before the hour mark. The duo combined again for the winning goal in the 89th minute.
The second goal was due to a goalkeeping blunder. Speaking after the 2-1 loss, Maresca said: "The 'keeper position is very delicate, when they make a mistake it's clear for everyone.
"He is our 'keeper in this moment. We have to support each other. We need to be strong and stick to our direction."
Chelsea have been in poor form over the past three months. They have picked up just nine points from their last 10 league matches.
As a result, they have dropped to sixth in the table. The Blues could fall down to seventh if Newcastle United beat Nottingham Forest.
Chelsea welcome bottom-club Southampton in the top flight in midweek.
