Arsenal handed blow in signing Nico Williams?
Arsenal could be handed a potential blow in signing Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams at the end of the season, as per Mundo Deportivo.
The Gunners are aiming to strengthen their wide attacking department this summer and Williams is the number one target for manager Mikel Arteta.
However, a deal may not be straightforward for the Gunners.
Williams has a release clause worth €55m in his contract and Arsenal should have no problem in paying the fee for a summer transfer.
Athletic are, however, hopeful of increasing the clause to a significant margin by handing Williams a new lifetime contract.
They are prepared to increase his annual salary further with bonuses, and Williams is reportedly considering the possibility of this.
The news could be a huge setback for the Gunners. If Williams were to commit to such an extension, he may not leave this summer.
Arsenal are keeping tabs on alternative options too. Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo is one of their possible choices for the next window.
