Massimiliano Allegri breaks silence on Mike Maignans future

Allegri confirms Maignan will stay at Milan

AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri has clarified that Chelsea target Mike Maignan will stay at the club next season.

The 30-year-old recently emerged as a top target for the Blues, but they could not secure a suitable agreement with the Rossoneri.

The Rossoneri wanted at least €30 million for his transfer, but Chelsea were reluctant to pay more than €15m for the goalkeeper.

In his first press conference as Milan manager, Allegri has now confirmed that Maignan has decided to stay with the Serie A outfit.

He said: "I saw him this morning, I’m very happy that he made this choice to stay. He’s the captain of the team, an international player, one of the best in the world. Well done to the club that convinced him to stay."

Chelsea wanted Maignan as a strong competitor for Robert Sanchez, but Milan refused to lower their demands for the former Lille man.

Maignan has entered the last year of his contract with the San Siro giants. He could still leave the club on a free transfer next summer.
