Villarreal agree deal to sign Chelsea defender
Spanish side Villarreal have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign left-back Renato Veiga, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Portugal international signed for the Blues from Basel in the summer of 2024 and he was loaned out to Juventus after the turn of the year.
The Bianconeri opted against a permanent deal, but Veiga has now agreed to join Villarreal, who have also qualified for the Champions League.
The La Liga outfit will reportedly pay around €29 million including add-ons for the defender, while the Blues will retain a big sell-on clause.
Veiga was initially signed as a back-up for Marc Cucurella at left-back, but he quickly fell out of favour under manager Enzo Maresca last term.
The Blues have now permitted his permanent exit after the purchase of Jorrel Hato from Ajax. The Dutchman joined in early August.
Chelsea are likely to focus on attacking signings hereafter and have their sights on landing Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho.
