Renato Veiga departs Chelsea
Villarreal have won the race to sign Chelsea forward Renato Veiga, with the Blues receiving £25 million for the Brazilian. The player only arrived last year at Stamford Bridge in a deal worth about £15 million, so represents a healthy profit for the Blues.
The defensive midfielder joined Chelsea from FC Basel in 2024, played seven Premier League games, and had a spell at Juventus on loan last year. This was enough for Villarreal to splash the cash on the Portuguese midfielder, who has agreed terms this afternoon with his new club. The Yellow Submarines had made Veiga their primary transfer target of the window.
Veiga came through Sporting Lisbon's ranks, played two season for the first-team squad, and then eventually moved to Switzerland with Basel, where he became a regular. Unfortunately the same could not be said at Stamford Bridge, and he has now been sold.
Villarreal have reportedly beaten Sunderland to Renato Veiga's signature.
