Chelsea want to sign Nuno Tavares?

Chelsea are reportedly keen on landing Nuno Tavares from Lazio, according to Italian publication Il Messaggero.

The west London giants bolstered their defence last summer with the signing of Ajax star Jorrel Hato, who can operate at left-back and centre-back.

Despite this, manager Enzo Maresca is eyeing more reinforcement and Tavares has been identified as a backup for Marc Cucurella.

Tavares had a tough time with Arsenal in the Premier League, but he has transformed his fortunes at Lazio, initially on a season-long loan.

The Portuguese joined the Serie A outfit permanently over the summer, and the Blues could seek to bring him back to the Premier League.

Tavares has registered nine assists from 36 outings for the Italian club. He could be prised away for a fee of around £43 million in future.

Chelsea have the finances to spend big on recruits and it remains to be seen whether they make a formal approach for the attacking left-back.

Arsenal will stand to benefit due to a high sell-on clause.
