Napoli are eyeing a shock move for Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte during the winter transfer window.

The Red Devils are currently short in the midfield department with Kobbie Mainoo, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount out with injuries.

This has paved the way for Ugarte to start alongside Casemiro in the centre of the park, but his future could be away from the Red Devils.

It is now claimed that Napoli are interested in signing Ugarte despite being linked with Kobbie Mainoo over the last few months.

United seem unlikely to sanction a winter deal. Mainoo, Fernandes and Mount could return soon, but the club don't anticipate exits.

They are prepared to stick with the current crop of midfielders until the summer and could contemplate Ugarte's exit next summer.

The club could still bolster their forward ranks. They are exploring the market for a potential attacking upgrade in early January.

Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo was recently on their radar, but he is expected to join Manchester City at the start of the year.
