Xabi Alonso to replace Arne Slot at Liverpool?

Liverpool are exploring the prospect of appointing Xabi Alonso as their new manager at the end of the season, according to Sport.

The club are 21 points behind league leaders Arsenal, and face a difficult challenge to qualify for the Champions League next term.

Amidst this, the Reds are contemplating the prospect of parting ways with Slot and have made initial contact with Alonso to succeed him.

Alonso was initially on the club's radar in the summer of 2024, but he opted to continue with Bayer Leverkusen after their invincible season.

The former Liverpool midfielder is out of work after his mid-season dismisal from Real Madrid, but he is open to a quick return to management.

If Liverpool were to end the campaign on a disappointing note without a trophy, they could decide to replace Slot with Alonso this summer.
