Chelsea to make summer transfer move for Jonathan Rowe

Jonathan Rowe news

Rowe on his way to Chelsea?

Chelsea are reportedly weighing up a summer move for Jonathan Rowe, with the Bologna winger emerging as another name on the club's attacking shortlist ahead of the transfer window.

The 23-year-old has rebuilt his momentum in Italy after a complicated spell at Marseille, and his form for Bologna has put him back on the radar of Premier League clubs. Rowe, who came through at Norwich City, has always been viewed as a player with sharp one-v-one ability, direct running and an eye for goal from wide areas. Now, after proving he can adapt outside England, Chelsea are believed to be among the sides looking closely at whether he could be brought back to the Premier League.

Rowe's season has been solid rather than spectacular, but there is enough there to explain the interest. Across Serie A and European competition, he has produced around seven goals and three assists from 38 appearances, including 24 starts. That output is useful for a wide forward, especially one still developing and playing in a more tactical league. He also scored a dramatic winner against Napoli and found the net in Europe against Aston Villa, two moments that helped underline his big-game potential.

Chelsea's interest makes sense when looking at their squad. The club have plenty of wide attackers, but not all of them have fully convinced, and there are ongoing questions around consistency, injuries and long-term balance. Rowe would not arrive as a guaranteed starter, but he would give Chelsea another direct option on the left flank, someone who can carry the ball, attack defenders and offer goal threat from wide.

The transfer fee would not be cheap. Bologna only signed Rowe from Marseille in 2025, with the deal reported to be worth around €19.5m. Given his contract, age and growing reputation, Bologna would likely want a sizeable profit. Reports in Italy have suggested Chelsea could be prepared to go as high as €38m, which works out at around £33m. Other estimates place his value closer to €18m to €22m, but Bologna's asking price would almost certainly be higher than that if Premier League interest becomes serious.

Chelsea are not the only club watching the situation. Galatasaray have been linked and may offer Rowe a more central role in their project, while other English clubs are expected to monitor him if Bologna show any willingness to sell.
