Manchester City open talks for Mathys Detourbet

Troyes player set for City move?

Manchester City are pushing ahead with their pursuit of Mathys Detourbet, with the Troyes winger emerging as one of the most exciting young talents on the City Football Group radar.

The 19-year-old French forward has been tracked for months, and the link makes perfect sense. Troyes are part of the City Football Group, which gives Manchester City a natural advantage in the race. If City decide Detourbet is a player they want, they already have the structure to move quickly, secure the deal and then map out the best development path for him.

Detourbet is not yet a household name, but his rise has been impressive. A Troyes academy product, he has already broken into the first team and become an important player in Ligue 2. This season, he has produced around three goals and five assists in the league, while playing close to 2,000 minutes. Those numbers are encouraging for a teenager still learning senior football, especially in a physical division where young attackers are not always given time to settle.

His profile is exactly why City are interested. Detourbet is mainly a left winger, but he can operate across the front line. He is quick, technically sharp and direct, with the confidence to take defenders on. He likes to receive wide, drive inside and create danger either through shooting positions or final passes. City have always valued wide players who can dominate one-v-one situations, and Detourbet looks like the kind of raw talent they can polish.

The fee being discussed shows how highly he is rated. Earlier reports suggested a deal could be worth around €15m, but more recent claims have put the package closer to €25m, including bonuses. That is a big figure for a player still at Troyes, but it reflects his potential, his contract situation and the fact that other clubs have been watching closely.

Roma are believed to have shown serious interest previously, with a bid package rejected, while Monaco and German clubs have also been linked. That competition may have pushed City to act before his price rises even further.

A move to the Etihad would not necessarily mean immediate first-team football. City could send Detourbet on loan, with Monaco mentioned as a possible destination, or use another development route within the wider CFG network. The Savinho pathway is the obvious comparison: identify the talent early, manage the loan plan carefully, then bring him into the Manchester City picture when ready.
