Xabi Alonso wants reunion with 27yo star at Chelsea

Newly appointed Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso could raid his former club Bayer Leverkusen for a summer signing, according to Teamtalk.

The Blues are expected to back the Spaniard with big money this summer and a marquee centre-back could be one of the prime priorities.

Teamtalk claim that Alonso has a fond relationship with Edmond Tapsoba and he could push for a reunion with Leverkusen ace later this year.

Leverkusen consider the Burkina Faso international a key player, but they could be prepared to sell him for around £60 million, according to reports.

The 27-year-old could be tempted to join the west London giants even if they have not qualified for the Champions League next season.

Chelsea are expected to change their transfer policy in the next transfer window. The focus will be on experienced stars instead of emerging talents.

Alonso has his sights on making a big impression in his debut campaign and has set the target of winning at least one trophy at the Blues.
