Bruno Fernandes pushed Man Utd to sign Portuguese star
Bruno Fernandes pushed Man Utd to sign Portuguese star

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was determined to bring Mateus Fernandes to Old Trafford before his move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
The Portuguese was a top midfield target for the Red Devils, and the club were in constant negotiations with West Ham United for his services.
However, United were eventually beaten by Spurs to his signature after the north London outfit decided to meet the £85m price tag in full.
The Red Devils, on the other hand, offered £80m upfront with £5m in add-ons, which was unacceptable for the Hammers after Spurs' bid.
It is now revealed that Fernandes tried everything within reach to convince Mateus, but ultimately, United could not secure a suitable deal.
Mateus has previously said that Bruno has been his idol, but a move unfortunately did not materialise due to United's transfer stance.
The Red Devils now need to pursue a quality alternative. They are said to be considering an approach for Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott.
