Arsenal make shock approach for Cristian Romero

Arsenal have made a shock approach to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero, according to journalist Gaston Edul.
The Gunners are keen on landing a new central defender this summer as they seek to cover the absence of the injured William Saliba.
Romero has emerged as a surprise target in the last 24 hours, and Edul claims that Arsenal have made multiple approaches for him.
The Premier League champions are prepared to pay a higher fee than Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan, but Spurs are reluctant to do business.
That does not come as a surprise, given Spurs have not done a cash transfer of any form with Arsenal since legendary goalkeeper Pat Jennings crossed the divide way back in 1977.
Sol Campbell was the last first-team player to leave Spurs for Arsenal on a free transfer. He was their captain at the time, and Spurs are unlikely to entertain a repeat. Romero to Arsenal is a non-starter.
