Chelsea star Wesley Fofana suspended for Fulham game

Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana will be suspended for the Premier League opener against Fulham on the road on Monday night.

The Blues start their league campaign against their west London rivals at Craven Cottage, but they will be without Fofana's services.

Fofana picked up a red card in the final league game of last season against Sunderland, and will therefore serve a one-game ban.

However, he should be back for the midweek Carabao Cup game. The Blues host Luton Town in the second round on Thursday night.

There is plenty of excitement at Chelsea after the appointment of manager Xabi Alonso, and only time will tell whether he clicks.

The Blues' hierarchy have backed the Spanish tactician with funds to bolster the squad, and there could be more signings before the deadline.
