Lazio twice came from behind to earn a point in a tight encounter against Real Madrid in the Olympic Stadium on Wednesday evening. Goran Pandev cancelled out Ruud van Nistelrooy's goals to put the Madrid giants in front - twice - either side of half time.

Madrid had the majority of possession in a game of few clear chances, but Lazio matched their opponents as the sides continued to cancel each other out at every turn.

It did not take long for the deadlock to be broken as Ruud Van Nistelrooy scored after just seven minutes. Sneijder sent a free-kick over from the left flank and Ruud was allowed time and space to steer a shot past 43-year-old Marco Ballotta in the Lazio goal.

Lazio pulled one back through Pandev Luciano Zauri lifted the ball into Stefano Mauri, who cushioned a header across the area and Pandev fired the ball into the top corner of the net.

After half time, Madrid took the lead just after the hour mark just as Lazio were beginning to enjoy another small spell of pressure and van Nistelrooy got his third of the Champions League campaign.

With 15 minutes left Lazio got all three points. Gaby Mudingayi won possession in midfield before finding Pandev and he edged towards the area and the Macedonian sent the ball into the right corner of the net.
