Doyle to hand Wolves boost?

Wolves are a team that seem to be on the up at the moment after a difficult season that has, despite all the best efforts of manager Mick McCarthy and a number of stunning performances from his players, ended in a relegation dogfight. Last weekend in the Premier League, the loyal Wolves faithful were left celebrating wildly at the final whistle after a result that lifted them clear of the relegation zone and injected new belief into the team that involvement in the Premier League next season isn't just a distant pipe-dream.

With Wolves showing real desire and a touch of class and composure in front of goal to beat West Brom on Sunday, it was left to striker Kevin Doyle to provide another confidence boost shortly after.

Doyle, one of Wolves' best players and a proven goalscorer at all levels of the game, has been out since the end of March after suffering a knee injury while on international duty. There had been fears that he would be forced to miss the rest of the season but the 27-year-old now looks set to make a long-awaited return ahead of this weekend's crucial clash with Sunderland.

Wolves have, on the whole, struggled badly without Doyle's scoring touch in front of goal. In fact, in his absence, Wolves only managed one win in six.

With Mick McCarthy desperate for the fans to get right behind the players as they seek to pull off an unlikely feat by staying in the league for another season at least, Doyle could be the man to provide that element of optimism and self-belief that so sorely finds itself lacking in squads involved in the relegation dogfight.

Should Doyle come back and prove his fitness where it counts on the pitch this coming weekend, the sight of celebrating Wolves fans may become a fairly familiar one over the next two weeks.
