Federico Macheda earns Watford trial
Former Manchester United graduate Federico Macheda has been handed a trial by Watford. The Italian striker has been out-of-contract following his release from Cardiff City at the end of last month.
The 25-year-old became a well-known figure at Old Trafford when he curled in a shot in extra-time to gain United all three points against Aston Villa in 2009.
He failed to replicate a similar showing in the seasons which followed and was sent on multiple loan spells to the Championship before his release in 2014.
Macheda had since plyed his trade with the Blue Birds before manager Paul Trollope decided to cut ties with the player last month.
Watford are now known to have offered Macheda the chance to impress in training after he participated in the side's Under-23 fixture against Hull City in midweek.
The Italian found the net via the penalty spot on Wednesday, and he is likely to be given a further run to check whether he has the capacity to perform in the top flight.
