Chelsea to bid for Atalanta defender?

Chelsea are lining up a summer approach for Atalanta BC's Andrea Conti after watching him on several occasions this season.

The 22-year-old, who has previously spent time in the lower leagues in Italy, has impressed the Blues' scouts while tracking Franck Kessie.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Blues have set their sights on signing the right-back in the summer with Antonio Conte due to add a couple of recruits to his backline.

The Premier League leaders ended their long-term association with Branislav Ivanovic during the winter period and this has left a void in defence which must be filled ahead of their Champions League challenge next term.

Conti has earned plaudits for his ball interceptions this season, and this has helped Atalanta jump up to fifth in the table, five points away from a Champions League playoff spot.

Chelsea will seek to extend their eight-point gap over second-placed Manchester City when they host Swansea City on Saturday afternoon.
