Miguel Veloso
The brilliant midfield displays in the Portuguese top flight from Miguel Veloso have seen several of Europe's biggest clubs all have an interest in acquiring the player. Newcastle, Manchester United and Arsenal all wait on high alert for the Sporting Lisbon man to make a move.
The 21 year old versatile player is capable of playing anywhere in defence or central midfield, and has slotted in well as a holding midfielder this season for Sporting Lisbon.
Alex Ferguson is a big admirer of Veloso, and has already instructed his scouts to compile a complete dossier on the player. Another fan of Veloso is Man Utd's number 2, Carlos Queiroz, who initially recommended Veloso to Sir Alex.
Veloso spent a portion of his early career playing for Benfica, before making the move to Sporting Lisbon when he was 14. Veloso's father had previously played for Benfica.
Veloso showed just how brilliant a player he was during Portugal's Under-21 challenge in the European championship in June 2007, where Veloso grabbed two goals in three games.
Some sterling displays in the Portuguese league has seen Veloso make his first appearances for his country under Luis Felipe Scolari. He made his debut on October 13th 2007 against Azerbaijan.
Veloso stands at 5 foot 11, and carries a strong physical presence in midfield. Veloso is never afraid to put in a challenge. He plays with real heart and drive in the midfield, and is not afraid to get forward.
The question is, where does Veloso's future lie? Veloso is very close friends with Man Utd pair Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani; and has never hidden his desire to play in the Premiership. Manchester United have a very good working relationship with Sporting Lisbon. It looks like Veloso could be the long-term replacement for Mr. Scholes.
