Chelsea star reacts after World Cup selection blow
Chelsea defender Reece James has admitted that he is devastated after missing out on England's 26-man squad for the World Cup.
The right-back sustained a knee injury against AC Milan last month and it was revealed that he may not return until early December.
James still did not give up on making a recovery for the World Cup, but manager Gareth Southgate has decided against picking up.
The Three Lions boss did not want to risk the Blues graduate in his current condition and he personally informed James of the decision to leave him out.
In a statement on his official Twitter account, James has now expressed his sadness over the exclusion saying:
"Devastated. The minute I injured my knee, I knew the turnaround to make the World Cup would be tight, but I always felt it was possible."
"I appreciate there was risk on both sides but it was one I was willing to take. Good luck to the boys. I'll be back soon. Stay safe and sending love."
