Chelsea closing in on Dos Santos
Since the middle of the season, Premiership outfits Chelsea have been reportedly chasing FC Barcelona starlet Giovani Dos Santos and now as the Spanish season curtains down, there are widespread news reports suggesting that the deal is almost finalized.
Chelsea have reportedly struck a deal with the Mexican player. The weekly wage for Dos Santos, still only 18 years of age, is said to £40,000, which is astonishing when one considers his tender age and the fact he is yet to prove his mettle. It is reported that for the deal to be finalized, Chelsea and Barcelona need to agree on a transfer fee.
Giovani Dos Santos has always been touted to be a huge success and was proclaimed by the Brazilian great Ronaldinho as his successor. But he has failed to settle into life in the Barcelona first team in his first season with the Blaugrana as he has been overshadowed by fellow Barca wonderkid Bojan Krkic.
Manchester City were also in the hint for Dos Santos’ signature but the player’s father Zizinho, a former Brazilian international, wants his son to play for Chelsea with whom he believes his son has better prospect in the future. Moreover, with Chelsea’s larger financial prowess, Man City could never have really hoped to lure the youthful and promising Giovani Dos Santos to the City of Manchester Stadium.
