Former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira believes that if the Gunners take away the captain's armband away from William Gallas, they risk losing the Frenchman for good. Gallas has reportedly lost the confidence of many of his teammates.

There have been several rumours that since Gallas' strop at Birmingham City, he has lost the respect of many of his team mates. Since that day, Arsenal seemed to lose all chance of winning the Premiership title.

"Psychologically, it could be difficult for William," said Vieira. "He could think he has lost his coach's trust and his team-mates.

"Flamini's departure is a massive loss, they should offer good contracts if Arsenal want to keep their best players."
