Chelsea set to battle Arsenal for 14-assist sensation?

Chelsea are prepared to go head-to-head with Arsenal in the race to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres this summer.

The Sweden star joined the Primeira Liga outfit from Coventry City last summer. He has been in sensational form with 36 goals and 14 assists.

His progress has grabbed the attention of elite clubs in Europe. Arsenal are looking into a summer deal, but face competition from the Blues.

Gyokeres currently has a release clause worth €100m in his deal, but Sporting could be willing to negotiate a slightly lower fee this summer.

Arsenal are said to be making groundwork ahead of an approach, but may need to be wary of the Blues, who are capable of hijacking any deal.

The Blues previously beat the Gunners to the signing of Mykhailo Mudryk. They won the race by proposing more achievable add-ons to Shakhtar.

Gyokeres will want to join a club capable of winning trophies which could hand the Gunners an advantage over their London counterparts.
